Save anything. Only you can read it.
KeepCache is an encrypted read-later app for everything you share: links, articles, text, screenshots, images, PDFs and files. Each save is encrypted on your phone before it syncs, and search, AI search included, runs on your phone too.
First an email to confirm your address, then one when KeepCache opens. Nothing else, and you can ask us to forget your address at any time. Privacy policy
Illustration. Saves are sealed on the device; only sealed records leave it.
How it works
Share it, seal it, find it again.
Everything that turns a save into something you can search happens on your phone, before anything is synced.
From the share sheet
Share from any app to KeepCache, add a collection, tags or a note if you like, and carry on.
- links and articles
- text and notes
- screenshots and images
- PDFs and files
Encrypted on your phone
Your phone pulls out the readable text, reads the words in images, builds the save’s search index, then encrypts all of it with XChaCha20-Poly1305 before it syncs.
Ask in your own words
Search by keyword or describe what you remember. The search runs on your device over your own index, so it works offline too.
End-to-end encrypted
What stays sealed, and what we can see.
An encrypted app should tell you exactly what its servers can see. Here is the list.
Encrypted on your device
- the item itself: the page, image, PDF or file
- the text pulled out of it
- its search index
- titles, URLs, tags and notes
- collection names
Visible to our servers
- your account email
- your devices
- record IDs, versions and sizes
- when records are uploaded and changed, and which are fetched when
- IP addresses and notification tokens
- billing records, if you pay
Your recovery code is 24 words, shown when you sign up and confirmed by you. A passkey, an optional password or a device you already use can also unlock your saves. We hold none of them, so we can’t unlock your saves for anyone, including you.
Questions
Before you trust it with your saves.
Can KeepCache read my saves?
No. Each save is encrypted on your phone, with XChaCha20-Poly1305, before it syncs. The sync server keeps only encrypted records and sees their IDs, versions, sizes and when it received them, never what is inside.
What happens if I lose my recovery code?
You can still unlock KeepCache with a passkey, an optional password or a device that is already signed in. If every device, the recovery code and the password are all lost, your saves can’t be recovered, by you or by us. That is the price of nobody else holding the keys.
Does AI search send my saves to a server?
No. KeepCache works out each save’s search index on your phone and syncs it encrypted. Searching, including searching in your own words, happens on your device and works offline.
Can I bring my saves from Pocket or Omnivore?
That is the plan. Pocket shut down in July 2025 and Omnivore in November 2024, and KeepCache is planned to import their exports, along with Instapaper, Raindrop and browser bookmarks. You will also be able to export everything you saved.
Is there a web app?
iPhone and Android come first. A web app for reading and searching your saves is planned next, unlocked by pairing it with your phone.
